As we previously reported, ABC is set to bring The Muppets back to prime time TV this fall with a new mockumentary-style series in the vein of The Office. The show has been characterized as more “adult” oriented, and, for the first time ever, will “explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work” — a stark contrast to past projects, such as their ’70s variety show, cartoon series, and films like Muppets Take Manhattan.
New episodes are scheduled to air every Tuesday night at 8pm, but thanks to a new trailer, we get out first look at what’s in store for Kermit and the rest of his wacky, comedic crew. The nearly three-minute clip not only includes some silly and very Muppet-like shenanigans, but also highlights what makes the series so “modern.” There are meta moments featuring our favorite frog announcing that ABC’s officially picked up their show, as well as scenes about Fozzie’s love life (it’s high time the funny bear get his date on). ABC Studios and Muppets Studios will produce, with The Big Bang Theory’s Bill Prady and Bob Kushell serving as co-writers and executive producers.
